Mermaid Door

24 Jul

Mermaid_DoorCathedral_Rock_Window

“Mermaid Door,” the top image, is a reworked watercolor of the bottom image, “Cathedral Rock Window.  My original focus was the nine foot high tide swirling around and through Cathedral Rock. It now has light as well as the sea gushing out the door and the mermaid rock is more defined.

South Jetty Splash

23 Jul

South_Jetty_Splash

The South Jetty in Bandon, Oregon is a great place to watch the waves roll in and splash against the rocks. This watercolor is a composite of photos and memories from time spent mesmerized by the ocean’s action.

Cemetery Cypress

25 Jun

Cemetery_Cypress

This was painted plein air at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery which sits above the Coquille River and the Pacific Ocean.  The impressive line of Cypress trees has grown into an almost solid wall that bends away from the ocean winds.  It was a misty day which softened the colors for a reflective cemetery mood.

Lighthouse Trees

31 May

Lighthouse_Trees

This is a plein air piece done near the Coquille River lighthouse at Bullard’s Beach. Trees on top of a hill seem to have more character than those flat land or hillside trees. These show years of dealing with ocean storms while clinging to their sandy hill.

“Meet and Greet the Artists” at Second Street Gallery

Pat Cink is back with this summer’s “Meet and Greet the Artists” at Second Street Gallery in Bandon, Oregon. She will be at the gallery on Saturday and Sunday, August 1st and 2nd, from noon to 4:00 pm.

She will demonstrate her technique of using watercolor on Yupo paper and will offer visitors a chance to create their own miniature paintings. The synthetic Yupo paper allows watercolors to float and interact on the surface while retaining their fresh, rich colors. Pat will share her method in controlling this process in her creation of Bandon area seascapes and landscapes.

Pat also paints in soft pastels.  She finds that both the soft pastels and watercolor on Yupo paper allow a direct way of capturing the colors of coastal light in her landscapes.  Paintings in both media are on display at Second Street Gallery.  She will offer additional matted, unframed paintings during the “Meet an Greet.”

Beach Wall and Beach Stairs

15 Jan

Beach_WallBeach_StairsThese two paintings are reworked from one older watercolor, Kelp Stairs, done last July.  The two smaller paintings focus on the evening light turning the color of the scenes into peach and lavender-blue.  I have been fascinated with these old stairs set in between a natural wall and cliff face.  They start to wind up the cliff and then disappear.  The wall extends to make a protected entrance way.
