Every winter this little lake forms in the sand dunes near our home. The texture of the sand and grass contrasts with the house and lake in the light morning fog.

The opening in the fence invites a walk into the tangled woods with the curious misty light beyond.

Coos Bay View

This is a view of Coos Bay from a hill across the bay from the city. The low tide was apparent with the muddy inlet which filled with water during the two hour painting session. I love how the mud patterns record the tidal ebb and flow from the ocean. The watery textures are fun to paint with watercolor on Yupo paper.

The boggy areas in the path to Blacklock Point caught the reflections of the morning light and coastal mist as they filtered through the forest.  Blacklock Point had impressive ocean views when we finally reached it, but my best photo reference pictures were taken along the path recording the dramatically contrasting colors, values and textures.
